What Are The Risks of Untreated Sleep Apnea?

It’s significant because sleep apnea is a serious condition. In addition to leaving you feeling excessively tired during the day, it can cause morning headaches, irritability and depression. It has also been associated with a number of other significant medical conditions including:

High Blood Pressure

Type 2 Diabetes

Stroke
Heart Disease / Heart Attack

Irregular Heartbeat

Driving and Work-Related Accidents

Ordering Sleep Supplies

Your CPAP / BIPAP’s accessory equipment is a lot like other frequently used health products, such as your toothbrush or a razor: it deteriorates, ceases to function optimally, and can get germy and unsanitary. It’s important to replace your CPAP / BIPAP equipment to make sure your machine is as clean, effective, and comfortable as possible. However, unlike a toothbrush, the CPAP / BIPAP equipment may not look worn even though it needs to be replaced.

It’s important to replace your equipment following a schedule:

  • Mask – Every 3 months

  • Headgear / Chin Strap – Every 6 months

  • CPAP / BIPAP Device – Every 3 to 7 years

  • Tubing – Every 3 months

  • Cushion / Pillows – Every 2 weeks

  • Filters – Every 2 weeks

  • Water Chamber – Every 6 months

How To Get Started With Sleep Therapy

Visit your physician for a face-to-face examination and discuss your sleep options

During your exam, your physician will ask you about your quality of sleep as well as other health-related issues. If it is appropriate, your doctor will recommend a sleep evalutation

2

Your doctor will perform a sleep evaluation and diagnose your breathing issues

Most sleep evaluations are done at a sleep clinic where doctors can evaluate your breathing while you are sleeping. Afterward, your doctor may recommend equipment to help with your sleep apnea.

3

Place an order for CPAP and BIPAP equipment through Petersen Medical

A Petersen Medical sleep manager will guide you through the insurance process and make sure you get exactly what you need.

4

A Petersen Medical therapist will conduct a setup and custom fit the equipment

Licensed Petersen Medical therapists will conduct telehealth, in-home, or in-office setups according to your convenience.
